The Homegrowns is an ever-evolving Jamaican music project with roots in the sleepy town of Radeče and branches all over Slovenia. The first seeds of the project date back to December 2019 when a warmup riddim band accompanied MC Krebl, Haris Pilton and Tadiman.
Towards the end of 2020 the original trio from Radeče started recording original material but searched in vain for a way to play in front of a live audience. In March of 2022 they released three singles which brought the band new energy, collaborations with new musicians and the official band formation for a local show in Pristava Počakovo. Later they opened for Wicked Dud Division in August.
The year 2023 was a turning point for the band as the shows kept coming all around their home country, the biggest being their show on the Roots in the Woods festival, opening for Del Arno Band. The band’s peak of the summer season was the Natural Mystic Festival in Serbia where they opened for Tippa Irie & Soulcraft and at Mostovna Nova Gorica where they opened for the legendary The Toasters from the US. They started 2024 as guest for reggae/fusion band Raggalution and in the summer they played Metelkova Ljubljana as part of the Slovenian Reggae Day event. In July they performed for the first time in Croatia at the SeaSound Reggae Festival.
The band primarily makes original music in the many styles of Jamaican music with Slovenian and English lyrics along with every band member’s personal music taste which spices up the band’s traditional and authentic Jamaican sound.
