Here’s a clip of 5-star Kentucky commit Skyy Clark going through a warm-up shooting drill at the KC Classic two weekends ago. Clark, who has become the leader for Mokan Elite 17U, has really worked hard to show the media and scouts his ability to facilitate and distribute this AAU season. He looked very comfortable passing up good shots for great shots during this tournament, and he worked well with lob threat Felix Okpara.
In this clip, he shows a game-simulated jump shot rep. Clark has some of the smoothest mechanics in the high school game. He shoots with balance, aligns the ball with the hoop, keeps the ball close to his body, flicks to wrist to generate great rotation, and keeps his eyes on the rim the entire time. Although it’s not completely evident from this clip due to it being a warm-up shot, Clark squares his body to the hoop with one-two footwork well. The pretty mechanics have been a staple of Clark’s game over the years, and they will serve him well as he gets to higher levels of competition.
Skyy Clark is one of the most polished prospects at the guard spot in all of high school. There are not many major weaknesses in his game. He’s improved his athleticism since a year and a half ago, and he’s able to show that more in the open court. Decision-making looks to have made massive strides—he’s much more aware of when to create and when to play-make than he was two years ago, so that is a great sign for development. Clark’s handle was impressive all weekend. He kept the ball on a string and was very hard to contain with speed. He recently has announced that he will attend Montverde Academy next year, so expect another great shot at a national championship for Kevin Boyle and the Eagles.
