Regional director of public health Dr. Mylène Drouin, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante, and STM Chair Philippe Schnobb provided an update to the city's response to the coronavirus pandemic on Monday.
Drouin commended the province’s decision to postpone reopening stores in the city after Quebec Premier François Legault's announced the delay of retail stores reopening in Montreal and the surrounding areas by one week later than previously announced, citing high hospitalization rates.
Plante said the city is preparing for the lockdown to be scaled back for the economy and schools, but she said she supports Legault’s announcement.
“The battle has not been won in Montreal but we must continue to fight,” she said.
Plante also commented on the closure of parking lots of parks in Montreal, including Jarry Park, Lafontaine and Maisonneuve parks.
She also said the city will be providing mobile screening clinics in the "hotspots" of the city.
As of Monday, there are 32,623 cases of COVID-19 in Quebec, an increase of 758 from the previous day. The island of Montreal accounts for about half of the total number of infections.
