A playthrough of Sunsoft's 1993 game for the Sega Genesis, Beauty & the Beast: Belle's Quest.
Belle's Quest was released for the Genesis as one of a pair of games for the insanely popular Disney movie. It's pretty slow-paced and has more adventure elements, and this is largely due to it being aimed at girls. The other title, Roar of the Beast, was a straight-up action platformer, targeting the boys.
Belle's Quest is a fantastic looking and sounding game. The music has been reproduced really well, and the details in the graphics (especially the town stage) do a great job of mimicking the film's setting.
The game itself isn't that hot. There's a lot of walking back and forth, searching through a maze, and collecting falling objects. It works, but when you set your ambitions this low, is that really a surprise? To be honest, I'm sure any six-year-old girl would have loved this back then. It's super easy and reflects the film well. I just don't really fit into that particular demographic.
