Paul Kerensa (host of The British Broadcasting Century podcast) presents tales of the boozy opening night of BBC's Savoy Hill building and studios, on May 1st 1923, as told in Garry Allighan's 1938 book 'Sir John Reith'.
Savoy Hill was the 2nd BBC building, after the short-lived (and small) Magnet House, and just before Broadcasting House, where it still resides today.
We have plenty more tales like this on the podcast - podfollow.com/bbcentury - where we're retelling the origin story of British broadcasting.
