During a Coronavirus Task Force briefing on Friday with U.S. President Donald Trump, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the closure of the U.S.-Mexico border to non-essential travel, saying both countries have agreed to restrict movement across their borders to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.
This will not affect trade, Pompeo assured.
Trump also said the administration would be temporarily suspending interest and payments on federal student loans for at least the next 60 days.
In addtion, Trump lashed out at a reporter on Friday during the federal government coronavirus task force briefing, after NBC White House correspondant Peter Alexander asked Trump what his message would be to Americans scared about the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
Trump replied by calling Alexander a "terrible reporter' and called the question itself "nasty."
