NB. THIS IS A VOICEOVER TRANSCRIPT, NOT A FULL SHOT LIST.
(NATS)
IT'S A TOUGH BEING A NEW YORK TRAFFIC OFFICER....SCREAMING AT NEGLIGENT DRIVERS, ISSUING TICKETS..
(NATS)
BUT IT'S THE JOB NEW YORK TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AGENTS GEAR UP FOR EVERYDAY
(LYNETTE ACOSTA/NYPD TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AGENT) "it's a dangerous job people are getting upset getting a hundred fifty dollar summons"
(MARY CHAPMAN) "you have a tendency to want to pop them a few times but now you just gotta refrain from that"
BUT TOO OFTEN TRAFFIC AGENTS *ARE* GETTING ASSAULTED.....LYNETTE ACOSTA REMEMBERS THE DAY SHE ISSUED A TICKET TO A DRIVER WITH A HOT TEMPER
(LYNETTE ACOSTA/NYPD TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AGENT) "he got angry and he grabbed me by my duty jacket and brought me up by the ear"
NOW SHE STARTS HER SHIFT WITH A LITTLE MORE EASE....SINCE IT'S NOW NEW YORK LAW THAT ANYONE WHO ASSAULTS A TRAFFIC AGENT CAN FACE FELONY CHARGES....
(JAMES HUNTLER/ PRESIDENT COMMUNICATION WORKERS OF AMERICA LOCAL 1182) "we are now protected by a bill that when issuing a summons if we are assaulted they could go to prison for 2 to five years"
PREVIOUSLY IT ASSAULTING A TRAFFIC AGENT WAS A MISDEMEANOR AND CARRIED A PENALTY OF UP TO A YEAR IN JAIL....ALTHOUGH NEW YORKERS MAY NOT LIKE THE TICKETS AND TOWING, THEY UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR STIFFER CONSEQUENCES
(ERASMO DEMAO) I think it's good it's hard enough to do what they do write up tickets and stuff they already take verbal abuse is already one thing but then physical is another
(JAY MCCLINTON) there's no way it should be lawful to assault an nypd officer on any front
(JO HALLY) ever wanted to assault a traffic officer? Yes but I don't want to go to jail for it!
AND THAT'S JUST HOW TRAFFIC AGENTS HOPE ALL DRIVERS WILL FEEL THE NEXT TIME THEY CONTEMPLATE STRIKING AN OFFICER.....BONNY GHOSH THE ASSOCIATE PRESS NEW YORK.
