Many drummers miss the fact that the paradiddle is made up of two key components, each of which can be learned separately. Breaking down this simple rudiment makes mastering it much easier. We all want to learn the paradiddle so that we can figure out how to orchestrate it around the kit or build cool grooves out of it. That’s all good… but sometimes getting the paradiddle going just on the snare is a challenge. Today we’re breaking it down in slow motion, demonstrating what the hands, wrists, and fingers are doing at 5 different tempos. If you’re struggling with your paradiddles, go back and review the lesson on doubles we did two weeks ago. Make sure that your doubles are solid before you really tackle paradiddles. These tips today should really get you going with improving this rudiment, though, so enjoy!
