A Jazzy live version of "Ol' Man Mose" by the Swinging Blue Jeans with a collage of photos and album covers from 1962 to 1966
How did the Swinging Blue Jeans get their name?
The band started out in 1957 as a Jazz influenced skiffle group.
In homage to Gene Vincent and his "Bluejean Bob" hit song, they called themselves the "Bluegenes."
This name was choosen because there was already a band called "Bluejeans" backing Gene Vincent.
When the Jazz influenced "Bluegenes" got booed off the stage at the Star Club in Hamburg in 1962 they switched to rock 'n' roll and with a name to reflect their new attire they became the Swinging Blue Jeans!
PS. Perhaps the famous 50's Jazz musician Gene Ammons, who had released two albums in 1958 called "Blue Gene" and "Swingin'est," influenced this name change as well?
