Flow measurement devices are venturimeter, Pitot static tube, orifice meter, Nozzle meter. In this video we will discuss the procedure to Flow measurement for venturimeter, Pitot static tube, orifice meter, Nozzle meter.
The restrictors of fluid flow, such as the short tube orifices and sharp edged orifices, are basic means for the control and measurement of the fluid flow rate. This section is dedicated to study the fluid flow in these elements.
An orifice is an aperture through which fluid passes and its thickness (in the direction of flow) is very small in comparison with its other measurements. An orifice used for flow-metering purposes has a sharp edge so that there is the minimum contact with the fluid. If a sharp edge is not provided, the local flow pattern in the orifice depends on the thickness of the orifice and the roughness of its boundary surface. The liquid issues from the orifice as a free jet, that is, a jet unimpeded by other liquid, and therefore under the influence of gravity.
