In this video lesson, I demonstrate one of my favorite tricks for soloing over rhythm changes. It’s using the most common scales, the pentatonic and blues scales. Hopefully you have a good grip on the scales already. If not, please be sure to go back to my previous lessons both on YouTube and on Patreon where I share all of my materials.
This is probably the easiest method for soloing over rhythm changes. It’s a very similar approach are used for soloing on the 12 bar blues and jazz swing style. Please again, see my older videos for more demonstrations.
The great thing about this approach, is that you don’t even need to think about what chord you’re on at the moment. This is a more bluesy and soulful approach versus the bebop approach of playing over every chord change. Of course, I like both methods. But the great thing about this particular method using pentatonic scales, is that you can just float and rock out on the pentatonic scales! The concept is to mix and match freely depending on your mood and what you were hearing in your head between the major and minor/blues. A similar approach is used in the beer section that is inspired by sweet Georgia Brown, and Charlie Christian approach to soloing.
