Hi Homestead Family. Welcome back to our channel.
Here on our farm we have black walnut trees growing wild throughout our forest. And they thrive in the sunny areas. Guess what? If we’re gonna plant a garden we certainly are doing that in a sunny area.
But if we want our vegetables to thrive we must look at a black walnut tree as if it is an invasive weed . . . . a very large one.
There is Juglone, a chemical in Black Walnut. It will stunt the growth of various vegetables, fruit trees, berries, etc. or even kill the plants altogether.
Juglone is found in almost every part of the Black Walnut tree.
“In the 1880s, scientists identified a compound called juglone that is produced by black walnut trees. After conducting a few tests, the scientists demonstrated that injury and sometimes death resulted when the chemical juglone came in contact with a susceptible plant. The symptoms that they noted were yellowing leaves, wilting and eventual death of certain plants.”

Make sure your garden is safe from the Juglone toxic exposure. After all your garden is essential. If you have to remove a black walnut tree, it’s usually easy to find someone who will clear it out for you for free. They will want the walnut logs instead of your money.
