Hello everyone, there are a lot of things to consider when buying a home. As a realtor, I am constantly learning to make sure my clients are taken care of in all aspects including safety. If you are a realtor, become familiar with radon. If you are buying/selling your home, make sure and ask your realtor about everything-- you want a realtor that is educated in all the things you may not event think about!
I wanted to share something with you that I have learned about radon. I was helping my clients make sure they were safe from radon. We had some radon testing done in a home they were wanting to purchase. I wanted to share this video with you to help you be aware of this before you buy an older home. Make sure you are safe from high radon levels in your home.
Radon can be scary. It is a radioactive material. It is produced by the decay of Uranium. It has a half-life of four days, which means after four days the radioactivity of the material essentially disappears. However it can be constantly occuring due to the abundance of Uranium and other materials naturally found in the earth.
You want a mitigation system to make sure you are safe. When to test for radon? In newer homes, concrete can act as a barrier to prevent it from filtering throughout the home. However, older homes may not have this system in place. If you're buying an older home, radon testing might be something you want to add to your checklist.
If you have found high radon levels, make sure to do your research in remediation before you choose a contractor. In this video I will go through the process they will go through to make sure you are kept safe from the radon gas and make sure it is vented out.
