Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the Indian diaspora in Moscow, expressed his satisfaction with the collaborative efforts between India and Russia. He stated, "I am happy that India and Russia are working shoulder to shoulder to give new energy to global prosperity. All of you present here are giving new heights to the relations between India and Russia." Modi visited Russia and met President Vladimir Putin on July 8. By choosing Russia for his first bilateral visit after being sworn in, Modi broke the tradition of India’s new Prime Ministers travelling first to a neighboring country.
