Hey gang, welcome to step 3 of your mushroom growing adventure. By this point you've clearly sank a lot of time and effort into your own project (or at least these videos), so we'll get right down to brass tax. In this video, I spend about 20 minutes reducing an Alder log to sawdust using my Dust'O'Matic 3000 before taking the sawdust to our sophisticated laboratory for processing. Using state of the art technology, the dry sawdust is measured and mixed with water and gypsum to achieve ~65% moisture content (by feel), and used to fill 12 quart - sized mason jars to the 600 ml line. The jar lids are then loosened and covered in tin foil, and the jars are pressure cooked for 2 hours @ at 15 psi. Once the jars have cooled to below 100 degrees Fahrenheit, they are ready to be inoculated with your now fully - colonized jars of grain spawn from the previous video. Using sterile tools and methods, the grain spawn is easily broken up and distributed into the jars of sawdust to create (yes, you guessed it) sawdust spawn! Video taken on 1/15/18. Species used include: Pearl Oysters and Blue Oysters. Comments and critics welcomed.
