Perhaps no figure has been more popular in Iran's sporting history over the past few decades than Iran's most famous wrestler, Gholamreza Takhti. A multiple world champion in freestyle wrestling and winner of the Olympic Games, Tahti was a true example of sportsmanship. But, his fame is based not so much on his athletic accomplishments, but rather on his noble demeanor. For many Iranians, he is to this day considered a true national hero who symbolizes the very essence of sports.
