The adventures of Irish-Canadian artist Paul Kane, who travelled across Canada and back with the Hudson's Bay Company brigade trail in the mid-1840s, painting the characters and scenes he encountered along the way.
In Part 8, Paul Kane and a companion join the York Factory Express, the Hudson's Bay Company train which annually travelled from the Fort Vancouver east across the continent to York Factory, on the shores of Hudson Bay. On the first leg of the journey, a pair of voyageurs are chastised for stealing and deserting; Kane steals a Flathead Indian skull from a burial ground; the party visits the Chimney Rocks; and Kane and a guide visit Pelouse Falls, which the Indians said no white man had witnessed before. The first leg of the journey ends at Fort Walla Walla, in what is now Washington State.
