Majrooh sultanpuri excelled in changing with the times and audience tastes. The ’50s, with their more serious and socially oriented films, demanded a different vocabulary than the playful and light musicals of the ’60s. And he adapted wonderfully well. He adapted himself to the changing times and wrote songs that would be liked by every generation.
