Sayur asam (Indonesian Tamarind Soup),
It’s a favorite among Indonesian locals. Whenever we went to restaurants that serve native cuisines, mostly served this soup. The soup are made with lots of different variety of vegetables. Common vegetables used in this sayur asem are melinjo nut , long beans, corn, baby corn and all cooked in tamarind-based and spices soups.
Melinjo nut or known as Gnetum Gnemon is native to Indonesia and the seeds are famously used in this sayur asem. Can be replaced with nuts if you can’t find it in your area.
Ingredients:
1 Sweet corn
1 Torch ginger
250 gr Melinjo nut
100 gr Melinjo’s leaves
100 gr Young jackfruit
100 gr Long bean
100 gr Baby corn
800 gr White clams
750 gr Prawn
Broth :
2.5 ltr Water
6 Red chili
8 Chili padi
5 Cloves Garlic
8 Onions
50 gr Palm sugar
8 Bay leaves
2 tbsp Chicken powder
1 tspn Salt
50 gr Tamarind
8 pcs Dried sour fruit
(asam gelugur)
