Aaj Aur Kal is the story of a fastidious king Ashok Kumar as Balbir Singh whose stern behaviour leads to a breakdown in communication with his four children. His intimidating commands leads to a partial paralysis of his eldest daughter Hemlatas lower limbs. After numerous attempts fail to cure Hemalata the king hires a new doctor Sanjay played by Sunil Dutt. Sanjay is not just young and handsome but also against silly protocols that hamper laughter fun and frolic. Sanjay and Hemalata fall in love and the romance enables her to walk in quick time. The king has now two tasks firstly to separate two lovers and then win the upcoming elections. Will he be able to do that?
