Spoiler Alert... information about #LivingInWinnipeg is included below!
Thirty people are moving to Winnipeg everyday, and we understand why! Here are the top 5 questions that come up almost daily when discussing a move to Winnipeg:
1. How Cold is Winnipeg?
We have some of the most beautiful weather in all of Canada in the summer - but it is cold, really cold. It isn't uncommon to have temperatures anywhere from -50 to +40 degrees Celsius. There are some things you can do to minimize your exposure to the cold: Attached garages (heated or even insulated make a huge deal), command start in your vehicle, proper attire, block heaters, etc. Reach out to us for some tips! #howcoldisWinnipeg
2. Is Winnipeg Family Friendly?
Absolutely! Look at the urban sprawl of our city - we have a large footprint, there is a ton of greenery everywhere, larger than average Canadian lot sizes, and fabulous school systems!
3. What are the major sources of Industry?
I had to cheat on this one... Aerospace, manufacturing, Agribusiness, Health Care and Public Administration seem to be some of the largest sectors. We also have incredibly low unemployment rates. There have also been more rapid growth in our tech sectors!
4. What kind of Food Options are there in Winnipeg?
Winnipeg has one of the highest number of restaurants per capita in all of Canada - and there is a large variety. There are cuisine options from all around the world!
5. What does it cost to live here?
Cost of living - Winnipeg has always been well behind the National average in terms of home prices. We are one of the most affordable cities to live in in Canada, especially for a population of our size. We also have traditionally had slow and steady growth for the last 40+ years (with the exception of two years). Appreciation and affordability are cornerstones to the market here. Property Taxes - They are higher in proportion to the value of homes when compared to other markets. There are proposed changes that are supposed counteract part of these taxes though. Utility costs - MB Hydro Baby! WE are one of the largest exporters of power and our bills here are about 1/3 per kilowatt hours of other provinces.
