Extreme minimalism is something that is always intriguing to me. As a minimalist I've always struggled with the balance between decluttering and being content with where I was in my journey. In 'The life changing magic of tidying up' Marie Kondo says you are likely to experience a "click-point" of how much is just right for you (Konmari method). But the click point doesn't seem to be a solid feeling for me. After decluttering I'm content but over time it becomes the new normal. There are no rules for minimalism, so it's all up to you to decide what is enough and what is too much.
I've been reading books from Thich Nhat Hanh which talk about monastery life and I've been watching videos from @nickkeomahavong01. Something about not having much and living in ultimate simplicity seems really appealing to me.
But the thought of just getting rid of everything seems scary to me.
I often ask myself if I would want to live like an extreme minimalist and what would be the purpose of it.
I have no intentions of traveling the world and my house is big enough for everything I have.
A Japanese minimalist interior really appeals to me, but I don't think it would be very practical.
I often think about what @Robin.Greenfield said in one of his videos. He said that he doesn't believe in owning things. Ultimately we don't own anything on this planet. We live here and we are part of the planet, we simply can't "own" any of it.
So that makes the thought of not having much a lot easier. But in the end it's all about your mentality, not about the exact number of things you own. You take yourself with you everywhere you go, so the most important thing is to do the inner work. The rest will follow organically as a result of the inner work you've done.
