Here is a little video for my pupils and anyone else who might be interested in transcribing jazz solos. This was put together as a real life snap shot of a solo that I transcribed over an afternoon between teaching. This is the best way to work on jazz playing - copying solos from the jazz greats and playing along with them.
If you are new to jazz or new to transcribing, this solo is a great place to start - it is fairly straight forward, melodic, there are no really challenging rhythms and there's some really nice phrasing.
Simple audio - one microphone picking up the saxophone and Itunes through computer speakers. Emphasis on a 'normal' practice room situation.
The solo is from Chet's album 'Together' with saxophonist Paul Desmond.
