Before we start, I wanted to point out that each snare drum is crafted differently. That means that the drum head will react differently according to the build of each drum. These examples are how these drumheads sound on this AVA 14” x 6.5” Wenge Thin Stave snare drum.

The wires and snare side head stayed the same, along with my playing, and microphone placement, and I tensioned the batter drum heads the same using my ears.

The Controlled Sound Coated Bottom Black Dot features focused midrange tones with added durability. Constructed with 1-ply of the 10-mil Coated film and a 5-mil Bottom Black Dot, Controlled Sound Coated Bottom Black Dot drumheads provide medium and heavy-duty drumhead characteristics. Thoughts:

The Triple Threat construction causes the snare drum sound to be more controlled and focused with little overtones.

On the other hand, the controlled sound is lively and allows the drum to feel open and more present and responsive in the mix.
