This hike began at the Fish Hatchery TH and proceeded easterly. This was an in and out hike of five miles, sometimes in the shade of pines, junipers, and oaks.

Trailhead from Payson: Drive the 260 east for 16 miles, past milepost 268, turn left at the sign for the Fish Hatchery. Go for another 3.8 miles to a large parking area just prior to the driveway for the Hatchery.
