To perform the phalen test test, the examiner should instruct the patient to maximally flex both wrists together. The patient should hold this position for 60 seconds and notify the examiner if they start to experience symptoms.
How to Interpret Phalen Test
Positive Finding: The test is considered positive for carpal tunnel syndrome if the patient experiences tingling or paresthesia into the thumb, index finger, middle finger or the lateral half of the ring finger.
