Ashley Donadt shows and teaches how to do a running scallop braid on a horse with a long mane.

This style works well as an alternative to the running braid for horses with long (not pulled) manes. 🌟 This is demonstrated on sales horse, LL Valdivia (“Val”), a 2014 PRE Gelding Imported from Spain in 2019 🌟

1. Begin with a small section of mane (about 2” wide) and make a normal braid, about 6-8” long

2. Secure with a rubber band at the bottom

3. Thread the end of the braid through a hole at the top of the braid, making a braid “bun” and leaving a braid “tail”

4. Grab the next section of mane, combining the braid tail with the adjacent piece then continue to braid as normal

5. Leave the top loose enough that the braid tail creates an arch between sections

6. Repeat the same steps from before. Continue this process down the entire neck

7. Roll/fold the last braid into itself, and secure with a rubber band

Tip: I also add rubber bands over the rest of the braid buns as well to give them extra hold and security
