A series of videos about the music of György Ligeti. In this second video I'm looking at Ligeti's music after living Hungary during the 1956 uprising, through his time in Cologne and Darmstadt, and his 'discovery' of micropolyphony.
All the music used in this video is for educational and research purposes.
The music playing at the beginning and in the background throughout part of the video is Ligeti's 1967 orchestral piece "Lontano". The performers are Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Claudio Abbado.
The excerpt from "Atmosphères" is performed by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.
