This authentic Punjabi style fish curry is loaded with flavours & pairs best with jeera rice or paranthas!
PUNJABI FISH CURRY
Ingredients
4 surmai darnes
3 tbsps oil
A pinch of carom seeds (ajwain)
2 large onions, finely chopped
1½ tbsps ginger-garlic paste
2 large tomatoes, chopped
Salt to taste
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi)
¼ tsp garam masala powder
Fresh coriander sprig for garnish
Method
1. Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan, add carom seeds and onions and sauté till they turn golden brown.
2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Add tomatoes and salt and mix well. Cover and cook till the tomatoes turn soft and pulpy.
3. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder and turmeric powder and sauté for 30 seconds.
4. Add 2½ cups water, mix and cook till it comes to a boil. Gently slide in the fish darnes and cook for 5-6 minutes.
5. Crush the kasuri methi and add into the pan. Add garam masala powder and mix well. Cook for a minute and serve hot garnished with coriander sprig.
