This webinar is aimed at reflecting on trends in the just energy transition in South Africa and the obstacles and opportunities presented in the wind value chain. It is geared towards supporting policymakers, civil society organisations and trade union movements in South Africa to develop recommendations that enhance the potential for the creation of decent work opportunities through appropriate industrial policy design and the realisation of deep localisation.
Hosted by the Institute for Economic Justice (IEJ) on 21 April 2022 the webinar's panelists included:
- Lebogang Mulaisi, the Labour Market Policy Coordinator at COSATU and an executive committee member at NEDLAC.
- Dr Nimrod Zalk, an Industrial Development Advisor in the Office of the Director-General of the South African Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) and a non-executive director of the South African Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).
- Angelina Mohanpersadh, a Renewable Energy professional who has had experience across a wide range of sectors including mining, construction & financial services.
- Dr Nthabiseng Mohlakoana, a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Sustainability Transitions (CST) at Stellenbosch University.
