In this short history documentary I will show you the causes, the summary, and the aftermath of The Winter War. This Soviet Finnish war, began with a Soviet invasion of Finland on 30 November 1939, three months after the outbreak of the Second World War, and ended three and a half months later with the Moscow Peace Treaty on 13 March 1940. In the south, the Finnish army decided to defend the Mannerheim Line, located on the Karelian Isthmus approximately 30 to 75 kilometers from the Soviet border. Finland won the Battle of Taipale, the battle of Kollaa, and the battle of Raate road. The soldiers had to deal with temperatures below -40C, and the Finns were able to hold off the Soviets for more than two months before the larger Red Army was able to overran them. Finland had to cede to the Soviet Union the entire Karelian Isthmus with the city of Vyborg, a part of the region of Salla, and the Rybachy Peninsula in the Barents Sea.
