John Carter was Disney's 2012 box office bomb which was supposed to begin a new franchise, a chance to capitalize on the market that Star Wars once had. Based on A Princess of Mars by author Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film rights would end up in the hands of director Andrew Stanton, the Pixar creator of Wall-E and Finding Nemo, but the film would become a massive failure due to a changing Hollywood, which would further change Disney and the other major studios. The film stars Lynn Collins and Taylor Kitsch, two stars on the upswing who would both become victims of a failing film.
