The southern spiny-tailed gecko is an insectivorous gecko in the spiny-tailed gecko family of strophurus. This family inhabits a significant amount of Australia with 17 species, however this species is one of two found in Victoria.
Often they are typically grey. Underside dark grey and speckled with dark spots. With two rows of tubercles along the body. Two rows of orange coloured larger tubercles along the tail. The eye is spectacularly orange to red with complex striations. Snout–vent length: 64 mm.
Often these geckos are found in dry sclerophyll forest, eucalypt and Callitris woodland, and mallee, extending into areas of hummock grassland. Typically
arboreal, but often found sheltering in spinifex or foraging on the ground in the more arid parts of its range.
