The Interlace is an apartment building complex located at the boundary between Bukit Merah and Queenstown, Singapore. It is noteworthy for its break from the typical tower design in cities with high population densities by resembling Jenga blocks irregularly stacked upon each other. Designed by The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), it was awarded the World Building of the Year title at the 2015 World Architecture Festival
The Interlace is a development by CapitaLand Limited, Hotel Properties Limited and a third shareholder. It features 31 apartment buildings, each six storeys high and 70 metres long. The unique stacking arrangement creates an intricate network of both communal and private spaces on multiple levels that are intertwined with the natural environment. The 170,000 square meters Interlace complex sits on 8 hectares of land, at the corner of Depot Road and Alexandra Road. It has 31 residential blocks with units ranging in size from 800 square feet to 6,300 square feet for the penthouses at the top of each blocks.
The award winning residential development that is The Interlace is a unique addition to the Singapore condominium scene. Its 1,040 units, split over 31, 6 storey blocks are clustered around 8 individually themed courtyards, specifically designed to maximise both air flow and light. Located in Depot Road in Alexandra, The Interlace is within short walking distance of the Gillman Barracks, with its eclectic mix of dining options, while commuters can be in Raffles Place in a quarter of an hour. Orchard Road is a short drive away or a few stops on the MRT from Labrador MRT, 10 minutes’ walk from the development.
CapitaLand, the developer for The Interlace is one of Asia’s major real estate companies headquartered and listed in Singapore. Its expanded global real estate portfolio includes integrated developments, shopping malls, serviced residences, offices and various types of homes.
The Interlace – Unique Selling Points
The Interlace has two major selling points. First of all the award winning development itself is unique in its design and scale, and offers residents a vast array of different options in terms of relaxation, and leisure within the site itself. The 8 differently themed courtyards and the facilities within the blocks mean it is very much a destination in its own right. Additionally however, The Interface benefits from its location on Depot Road. The Gillman Barracks with their eclectic mix of galleries and eateries is a short walk away, as are the several parks making up the Southern Ridges. Commuters can be in Raffles Place in a quarter of an hour, and Orchard Road is a short drive away or a few stops on the MRT from Labrador MRT, 10 minutes’ walk from the development.
The Interlace – Accessibility
Labrador Park MRT on the Circle line is a 10 minute walk from The Interlace. From there, Harbourfront (and hence VivoCity and Sentosa) are 2 stops away. It also means that commuting to Raffles Place takes less than 15 minutes, and Dhoby Ghaut on Orchard is only a small handful of stops away. For drivers, The Interlace is exceptionally conveniently located. It is a 10 minute drive to Orchard Road, with Raffles Place and the East Coast 9 minutes and 15 minutes respectively, while the CBD is approximately 12 minutes’ drive from The Interlace carpark.
