I am excited to share with you my latest tool. This Sherline 5800 Next Gen Mill is awesome and a real gem. It is one of those tools that is surprisingly utilitarian and makes things so much easier and aides to better machining. This Mill is the Biggest in the Sherline lineup and I am happy I went with it over other mini, micro, bench, desktop mills. For those who are assembling or want to check out the Sherline Lathe Headstock this video shows in detail how I assemble the headstock which is shared between both the mill and lathe.

I think detailed assembly videos are important and helpful to really see and understand the nuts and bolts of a good machine. This video will help educate and show viewers how this Sherline mill goes together. Whether you love or hate how it all works together, this will help viewers decide what machine is right for them.

While modern CNC milling centers are amazing for the maker and home shop machinist, there are some things you simply cannot do without a Lathe or Mill. Believe it or not, but the Lathe is known as the mother of all machine tools, for this piece of equipment led to the development of many other machine tools such as the vertical and horizontal milling machines. With proper fixturing, layout, and calculations the manual Lathe and Mill can do it all. These are key pieces of equipment in any machine shop whether for commercial or home use. In videos I will be demonstrating the Sherline Lathe “C Package” and the Mill “Package A”. I chose these particular machines for my project because it had many features, I felt would be beneficial for my build; the Kozo ¾” scale Pennsylvania A-3 Switcher 0-4-0 steam engine.
