Kaede was performing a duet with Monokuma, but Monokuma was using the bodies of Kaede's friends instead of pressing the buttons (of course not their real bodies). Kaede had to play parts of the monokuma in the duet herself to keep her friends from dying, but every time she did it, she was hurt. She eventually fell into a ditch and died.
