The things you agree to after a few pints on a Sunday afternoon. We visited the battery on the Monday morning at low tide as access is across the beach then partway up the cliff.
WARNING! Although access is mostly straightforward, entry to the battery itself is hazardous as it involves negotiating a very constricted hole in a questionable fill of rubble and waste - old tyres, rusting metal, broken sinks, you name it. The air within seemed fairly fresh - not musty or foul - but we only spent 15mins inside as we didn’t want to push it. The entire area is littered with mine workings and there is a lot of shale in the rock strata beneath the battery.
There is, unsurprisingly, no phone signal inside and if anything went wrong then you’d be on your own. Someone knew where we were going so if it did go pear shaped they could raise the alarm.
