Is the row over the use of Hindi as an official medium of communication back in the region?
The first day of the Meghalaya Assembly's budget session witnessed stormy scenes after VPP MLAs objected to Governor Phagu Chauhan addressing the house in Hindi.
VPP MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit raised objections to the Governor's speech stating that Hindi was not native to the state.
This was followed by a war of words between Basaiawmoit and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma as the latter defended the Governor's speech in Hindi. Such was the situation that Speaker Thomas Sangma had to intervene to calm things down.
