Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youths aged 10 to 24 in America. Depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicide ideation continues to increase amongst American youth while access to mental healthcare and resources are limited. Many young people have struggled in recent years with social media, bullying, anxiety, hopelessness and traumatic events. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic only amplified these factors and is expected to have long lasting effects. While some schools have implemented mental health programs, there is not a standardized health curriculum for students nationwide that addresses total life wellness. Could a national health curriculum in schools help prevent suicide? Emma White is a graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno, Author, Speaker, Founder of LifeIsWorthIt.Org, holds a position with the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention and most importantly, is a suicide survivor.
