Disney and Lucasfilm keep catering to the mythical 'modern audience' instead of doing their jobs: To tell great stories. Great stories don't always appeal to everyone and that's okay. At least when you're not pushing an agenda or ticking off boxes, you have the ability to make great art. Willow's designed-by-committee feel appeals to nobody and misses everything that made the movie so wonderful. I'm sad that we won't ever get the sequel this film deserved.
