Spotted gar (Lepisosteus oculatus) is the smallest member in gar family also fresh water fish native to North America that has abundance of dark spots on its head, fins & body. Spotted gar has an elongated mouth with many needle like teeth to catch other fish & crustaceans.
Have to be careful choosing tank mates as this fish will consider any fish that smaller than itself as food. It is not too aggressive towards fish its same size but it will bully any fish that is smaller.
Males mature at age of two or three, whereas females mature at three or four years old. Females have lower annual mortality rates. The maximum lifespan for a gar fish is 18-20 years.
