2023 Ford Everest Hybrid: The All-New Prado Killer!

If the Ranger ute is the new standard, then will Everest also dominate the truck-based SUV market? The new Ford Everest SUV, the second version of this model, will also be released in 2022. The 2023 Ford Everest 4x4 wagon continues to borrow heavily from the pick-up truck platform, and it has more than surface-level similarities to the dual-cab ute.

In comparison to rival ute-based SUVs like the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Isuzu MU-X, and Toyota Fortuner, the Ford four-wheel drive, the Everest, is now more expensive than ever.

There are still four different trim levels like the previous generation, but the price has increased across the board and the new diesel V6 engine comes at an additional cost.

The base variant, a 4x2 rear-wheel drive Ambiente, can be had for $52,990 with the 4x4 version costing an additional $5,990 (MSRP).

The next model up, the Trend, has had the largest price increase over the previous generation, with a $3200 increase for the 4x2 rear-wheel drive version (now $60,290) and a $5,000 premium for 4x4 (now $65,290).

The 2.0-liter bi-turbo engine powers both the Trend and the base Ambiente, and a 10-speed automatic is standard equipment regardless of drivetrain configuration.

The Sport trim adds the 3.0L turbo-diesel V6 and standard four-wheel drive but raises the price to $69,090. Plus, the previous top model, Titanium, has been replaced by the brand-new Platinum. The 3.0L V6 diesel engine, 10-speed automatic transmission, 4WD, and many more amenities are all standard equipment.

Another intriguing aspect is the availability of several options. With a 4x4 model, you may upgrade to 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires for $1100 with the Ambiente trim, $500 with the Trend trim, and at no extra cost with the Sport or Platinum trims.

Arctic White is the only color option that does not incur any additional fees. Shadow Black, Aluminum Silver, Arctic White, Meteor Grey, Sedona Orange, Equinox Bronze, and the exclusive Blue Lightning color are all available in the Sport trim for an additional $675. There was just one color of paint available, and it wasn't red, green, or two-tone.

The main designer, Nick Eterovic, told me that customers are fine with the vehicle being quite similar to the Ranger ute because they wanted it to seem like the strong truck on which it is based. Only minor changes to the bumpers indicate a distinction between the two.

In addition, the premium Platinum model has a contentious love/hate aspect. Across the hood, the Platinum grade has the letters P-L-A-T-I-N-U-M, while the Sport grade has the letters E-V-E-R-E-S-T.

It's less rounded and top-heavy and more solid and substantial than the preceding Everest. The longer wheelbase and broader track add width and length. The bar linking the taillights to the bumper creates an optical illusion. Even rival automakers struggle to make ute-based SUVs look balanced.

The dashboard's huge touchscreen controls several cabin features. Audio and climate controls are included.

All trim levels offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and all but the entry-level Ambiente have satellite navigation. All trim levels have a digital instrument cluster, however getting used to it may take time.

Even though Ford says it was designed so drivers could move between D and R without looking away, the shifter's manual mode button and +/- buttons are easy to unintentionally push.
