Alfred's enduring legacy as the saviour of Wessex lies in his remarkable ability to transform adversity into triumph, ultimately preserving the spirit and identity of his kingdom .As the King of Wessex from 871 to 899 AD, Alfred's legacy transcends his time, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural, political, and intellectual foundations of England.

Alfred born into royalty would have the enormous task of defending Wessex from the Viking invaders who had already taken the ancient Kingdoms of East-Anglia and Northumbria. The neighbouring Kings were dropping like flies and it would be up to Alfred to defend the Last Saxon Kingdom in England. This is his story.
