scud coating the old red brick wall ready to apply the 2nd coat of sand and cement render know as the scratch coat, scud coat is the most important layer here as its the foundation of witch everything else is applied to. we talk about applying the mixed scud coat to the mix itself giving what i put in and the ratios used of cement to sand.
