Javier, or “JJ” as he is called, is just over 15 months old and has Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease (PMD), which is a genetic disorder characterized by the body’s inability to produce myelin, the covering that protects the nerves and promotes the efficient transmission of nerve impulses. JJ receives physical, occupational and speech therapy in the Special Care Nursery.
Since 1967, Penfield has been a place where children with special needs find support, comfort, encouragement and strength. More than 1,800 children and their families benefit from Penfield’s holistic approach to early education and development, therapy and family programming.
In order to continue to offer these innovative services and help more children and families in need in our community, Penfield needs you. Your support, in any capacity, will help transform the lives of children in Penfield's care.
