Mea culpa: this is much, much shorter than was originally intended. But here's what happened with the Audio-Technica AT4080 Active Ribbon mic video demo that should have been: we shot footage of the thing on guitar cab, acoustic guitar, and ukulele — like we do — and then promptly lost all the audio save this vocal performance. And by that time we no longer had the mic. Bummer.
What's apparent from this snippet, however, is that the Audio-Technica AT4080 sounds absolutely lovely on vocals, imparting an intimate, vintage character without sounding muffled or inarticulate. We plugged the thing into a Universal Audio Twin-Finity 710 preamp and favored the transistor gain stage for some lush and lovely vocals.
