This video demonstrates that my One X2 camera cannot connect to the GPS remote.
Not recommended to buy One X2 and GPS remote.
Problem: One X2 and GPS remote don't connect to each other.
What's even worse? This is an ongoing problem with Insta360 products. The hardware/software experience is awful. Confusing help screens. Flawed hardware.
To me it looks like they hacked the GPS Remote to work with the One X2 and left it at that. They don't work together seamlessly. The firmware version of the GPS Remote is still 1.0.8.2, and it's been that way since I bought the remote months ago, which means the problem isn't firmware or software (because if it was, you'd think it would be fixed by now), but that the underlying hardware is so flawed, so horrifically problematic, that no firmware update can fix the problem with the remote.
Not only that, I bought the One X2 to use it as a dashcam for cycling. But to use the Insta360 app on my phone I get all this social media crap. All I want to do is to be able to download and edit videos for my camera and make sure everything is working properly.
But it's a horrible user experience. Doing simple things is hard. I don't want Insta360 to be my world. I just want it to take videos. The One X2 is an appliance and as an appliance it should just work reliably.
The camera portion of their products works great: great video capture, picture quality is good and editing and stitching works well. But the overall experience is so unsatisfactory that it makes using the One X2 and the GPS Remote a painful time-consuming hell.
Avoid the hell. Companies need to provide products that are a delight. The One X2 is not a delight.
Bottom line: I don't recommend any Insta360 product until they fix their clear hardware compatibility issues.
