Fluidized beds can separate out materials with different densities. This video starts out with denser glass beads on top of ground corn cob in a six inch diameter fluidized bed. Once the bed is fluidized the two materials initially mix, before reseparating. The dense glass beads are now on the bottom, and the less dense corn cob is now on the top.
