How To Make a Tom Collins
Hi, I’m Damian Bartender over the Liquid Kitty in West LA California, and we’ll talk a little bit about Tom Collins.
Tom Collins is a drink from to not like the 1800’s the folklore goes goes that it was developed by a guy name John Collins and named after somebody in the british parliament name Tom Collins but who knows where it came from but it all came from the family of sour, so it’s a sour base drink. It can be made a Tom Collins is traditionally made with Gin nowadays Gin you know in fifties, sixties, and seventies Gin fell out of popularity and common culture Vodka took it’s place so more often that you see more often see people ordered vodka collins or leaving rum Collins or a Whiskey Sour which is in the same kind of family. The difference is with the Collins it’s always get a special soda at the end, Gin nowadays makes bit of a comeback is becoming more and more popular still not at the popularity of Vodka but it’s coming back so, we’ll start with the rocks glass, filled it with ice, will take Bombay a Gin, not always Bombay but that’s will use today, here at Kitty we do heavy pour it’s about 5 counts it’s about one and a half ounces of Gin, will use sweet and sour about half that amount, a splash of soda on top, use straw and garnish it with the lime and cherry, the sour without the soda I would get a Orange and then cherry and that’s your Tom Collins.
