In this video, experienced Oculoplastic Surgeon Miss Jane Olver discusses the patient experience after eyelid chalazion treatment with a minor procedure called incision and curettage under local anaesthetic. A chalazion often starts with a small red lump on your eyelid that then becomes firm and does not go away. If it has been present over two weeks and has not responded to medical treatment, your chalazion may require surgical removal by and incision and curettage under local anaesthetic. Jane Olver suggests scheduling your treatment on a Thursday or Friday as you will have to wear an eyepatch for the first 24 hours afterwards. Immediately after the surgery, the lump will be gone. Post-operative puffiness and swelling are a normal reaction to the procedure for a few days, followed by complete recovery in most cases.
